In his bombshell memoir, Spare, Prince Harry exposes a tense exchange between his sister-in-law and his wife just days before the Sussexes’ 2018 wedding.

The dispute, which centered around flower girl dresses, reportedly left Markle sobbing on the floor – and months later, the story was twisted by the tabloids to paint her as the villain.

Now, the 40-year-old is revealing exactly what went down.

According to the Duke of Sussex, Catherine, 41, texted Markle, 43, just days before the wedding, complaining that Princess Charlotte’s dress didn’t fit properly.

“Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy,” the text allegedly read, per Harper’s Bazaar. The next message followed: “She cried when she tried it on at home.”

Harry explained that the dresses had been custom-made using prior measurements and that a tailor was on standby at Kensington Palace to make any adjustments.

The former Suits actress tried to de-escalate the situation and responded: “Right, and I told you the tailor has been standing by since 8AM. Here. At KP. Can you take Charlotte to have it altered, as the other mums are doing?”

However, Catherine reportedly refused to accept alterations, instead demanding that all the dresses be “remade”. She cited advice from her wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, who allegedly agreed with her concerns.

At this point, Meghan was already under immense stress due to the media frenzy surrounding her father, Thomas Markle.

Harry wrote: “Meg asked if Kate was aware of what was going on right now. With her father.” Catherine acknowledged the situation but remained firm, responding: “And the wedding is in four days!”

Markle attempted to end the dispute by suggesting: “I’m not sure what else to say. If the dress doesn’t fit, then please take Charlotte to see Ajay. He’s been waiting all day.”

Catherine finally relented, sending a brief: “Fine.” But by then, the damage had been done. When the prince returned home later that day, he found the Duchess of Sussex sobbing on the floor.

Months after the wedding, tabloids flipped the story, claiming that Markle had made Catherine cry over the flower girl dresses when, according to Harry, it was the other way around.

In December 2018, the four royals – Harry, Meghan, William, and Catherine – held a private meeting at Nottingham Cottage to clear the air.

Harry revealed that Catherine admitted the truth, allegedly telling Meghan: “I know, Meghan, that I was the one who made you cry.” However, despite this admission, no effort was made to correct the false public narrative.

The prince recalled that his sister-in-law became flustered, while Prince William offered vague reassurances but avoided taking a clear stance.

When they realized that no action would be taken, the Sussexes began questioning who had leaked the misleading story to the press.

Harry claimed that after much discussion, his brother admitted he “might’ve” mentioned the incident while having dinner with King Charles III and Queen Camilla – while the Sussexes were on their Australian tour.

The revelation left Meghan in shock. “I put my hand over my face. Meg froze. A heavy silence fell. So now we knew,” Harry wrote. “I told Willy you of all people should’ve known. He nodded. He knew. More silence. It was time for them to go,” he added.
